Aluminium solutions for power rail

Constellium’s aluminium-steel co-extruded power rails help guarantee electricity supply to underground and suburban train systems around the world.

Pioneering power processes

In the 1970s, Constellium pioneered a process of aluminium-steel co-extrusion. This process is now used for manufacturing conductive power rails that supply electricity to monorail underground and suburban train systems around the world. We provide power rails for top-running, lateral and under-running conductor rail systems as well as for rigid catenaries.

Beyond products, to solutions

Power rail

Under the name Railtech-Alu-Singen, Constellium undertakes the global sales and marketing of conductor rail systems in a joint venture with Railtech International, which produces insulators and rail sector accessories.

With our joint venture partner, we design, manufacture, test and supply products for conductor rail systems. We also offer optional services, such as detailed layout planning, installation training and on-site supervision.

The conductor rail explained

The power conductor rail, also known as the conductor or third-rail system, supplies electrical power from traction power substations to everything from rolling stock to passenger trains.

The transfer of current is made when the collector shoe presses on the contact surface of the contact rail.
