Innovation in sheets & coils
Our combination of expert teams, state-of-the-art research and production facilities, and over a century of production design experience make Constellium a leading innovator in aluminium sheets and coil markets.
The quest for innovation
Constellium is a key partner for industries seeking innovative ways to improve performance from aluminium sheet and coil applications and to comply with environmental regulations.
We strive to serve and accomplish that goal thanks to three essential factors.
- Dedicated research teams: At Constellium, we employ more than 170 scientists and technical staff in our R&D center in France and within our Packaging and Automotive Rolled Products team in Neuhausen (Switzerland). They work in close cooperation with highly qualified specialists at our engineering centers in facilities in Singen (Germany) and Neuf-Brisach (France). They also liaise with universities, clusters and labs.
- World-class research capabilities: Our Voreppe (France) research center (CRV) has capabilities that allow for development, prototyping and piloting of new products.
- Experience: Constellium has over 100 years’ experience in bringing new products to market.
Recent innovations
We work closely with customers across all sectors to ensure we can offer the services, expertise and solutions that address their most strategic issues.
Through this unique approach, Constellium consistently brings innovative solutions to market and improved process reliability and efficiency through innovative alloys and designs. Our recent Packaging and Automotive Rolled Products product developments include:
- Automotive body-in-white (BIW): In close cooperation with the CRV, Constellium Packaging and Automotive Rolled Products developed a full range of BIW products in under two years. Our BIW products help automotive original equipment manufacturers design lighter cars, thereby lowering fuel consumption
- Packaging applications: The CRV has advanced capabilities for packaging research and design, including:
- alloy development with state-of-the-art tools such as computer-aided can design, digital modeling of customers’ shaping processes, and novel shaping of innovative can types;
- alloys and products testing, characterization and optimization;
- pilot lines for lab trials of new products;
- rapid prototyping of lighter and customized solutions.
