Constellium completes $46M stretcher project at Ravenswood, West Virginia, facility
Constellium held a ribbon-cutting ceremony today to commemorate the commissioning of its new 30 million pound stretcher at its facility in Ravenswood, West Virginia, US. The stretcher is a critical piece of equipment, unique to the Ravenswood facility, offering leading-edge technology and production capabilities, which allows Constellium to provide high quality and value-added aluminum plate to its customers for use in a variety of industries. The re-build represents a $46 million investment.
“Through this major investment, Constellium reinforces its position as a key supplier of advanced aluminum products and solutions for aerospace and defense, as well as other important markets,” said Christophe Villemin, President of Constellium's Global Aerospace Division.
Participating in the ceremony were a number of local and state dignitaries, including Governor Earl Ray Tomblin; representatives from the offices of West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin III, West Virginia Senator Jay Rockefeller, West Virginia Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito, and Ohio Congressman Bill Johnson; and the mayors of both Ravenswood and Ripley. Also in attendance were Leo Gerard, President, and Tom Conway, Vice President, of the USW International, as well as representatives from the district-level offices of the USW, which represents bargaining-unit employees at the plant.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony was followed by an Open House during which plant retirees and current employees were able to invite a guest to join them on a tour of the plant, see the new stretcher, and reconnect with former co-workers.
“This is an exciting day and a significant step forward for the Ravenswood plant,” said Kyle Lorentzen, CEO of the Ravenswood operation. “The investment in the stretcher represents the confidence our owners and stakeholders have in our ability to position this plant for long-term success within a competitive worldwide market. The stretcher will allow us to offer greater reliability and manufacturing capabilities to our customers.”
“Today, we are able to honor the hard work of every employee at Ravenswood who made this project successful. Finally, we appreciate the support of the USW leadership and membership in completing this installation and sharing today’s celebration with us,” concluded Lorentzen.
