AIRWARE™ recycling

AIRWARE™ is Constellium’s technology designed specifically for use in all parts of tomorrow’s aircraft primary structures. Now, Constellium has patented a new process for efficient recycling of this high performance technology.

Total innovation

The future AIRWARE casthouse in Issoire plant, France

The recycling of AIRWARETM chips was initially thought to be impossible. However, by combining the expertise of teams at our Issoire (France) plant in conventional alloy chip recycling and the know-how of our Voreppe (France) research center in AIRWARETM  casting, we have patented a new process that makes AIRWARE™ the greenest option on the aerospace market today.

New casting units for our AIRWARETM  technology at Voreppe and Issoire will feature state-of-the-art recycling systems.

Green-sky thinking

Every hour, more than 50,000 tons of CO2  are released into the atmosphere and  6, 000 aircraft are scheduled for retirement over the next two decades. Due to these crucial environmental challenges, aircraft manufacturers and airlines are increasingly keen to make sustainable decisions. Reduction of carbon emissions and fuel efficiency are now fully integrated into the aircraft’s life cycle assessment.

Constellium is determined to work with its aerospace industry partners to maximize recycling opportunities and reduce the environmental footprint.

100% recyclable, AIRWARETM is the greenest option on the market today. Leveraging aluminium’s infinite recyclability without loss of quality or inherent characteristics increases the value of the metal, therefore making it a material of choice for aerospace industry.

Using recycled AIRWARETM also generates important energy savings as recycling uses only 5% of the energy necessary to produce primary metal. In addition, AIRWARE™ delivers 25% weight reductions for aircraft primary parts. This contributes to lowering the carbon emissions of an aircraft.
