Context:

 

The business need is to have well established, robust quality systems that meet Standards set-out by ISO 9001 and IATF 16949. In doing so, it will provide the framework for the business to meet and / or exceed our customer product quality requirements.

 

Primary customers for can stock products include - Ball, AB, Ardagh and Crown; while for automotive products, Constellium Muscle Shoals (CMS) is the majority supplier to the Constellium automotive plant in Bowling Green, KY (CBG).

 

 

 

Primary Purpose :

 

One of the primary duties that the Quality System Manager (QSM) must perform, is to establish and maintain timely, effective communication and the coordination of purpose driven activities. These activities should be designed to both complement and improve the business Quality Management Systems (QMS). To be effective in this duty, the QSM must form strong interpersonal relationships with key business members. This is especially the case with not only roles of influence, but also piviotal quality roles embedded in all Autonomous Production Units (APU’s).

 

Key working attributes of the QSM include –

  • a keen eye for continuous improvement through the application of problem solving and “out-of the box” thinking
  • skilled in planning and coordinating others to ensure agreed tasks and timelines are met
  • design and follow procedures
  • prioritise and pivot accordingly, work schedules that will ensure agreed deadlines are met
  • proactive and not afraid to ask for help before program slippages occur
  • embrace the role’s authority and be accountable for results
  • understand the larger picture while not loosing sight of the program details
  • an effective communicator – having both sound written and verbal / presentation skills

 

As the role is a Central Quality position, the indiviual should develop a strong understanding of QMS such that threats and opportunities are indentified with solutions to improve the business quality systems.

 

In addition, the ability to influence both indivuals and teams for business change / improvements, is a key quality for the indiviual’s success in the role.

 

Key Accountabilities:

 

  • Coordinate and prepare for all accreditation / Third Party audits. Work with all departments to standardize in line with Constellium standards (achieve and maintain IATF 16949 accreditation)
  • Coordinate and prepare for customer external accreditation and Customer Quality System audits. Lead effort to ensure customer flowdown requirements are implemented throughout the plant.
  • Ensure that Muscle Shoals Quality Management System conforms to customer requirements

(Successful scores on customer audits)

  • Plan and coordinate process / system gap analysis and provide pathways to achieve gap closure (Successful certification to new standards and customer audits)
  • Create procedures, process flow diagrams, decision trees, instructions, forms and checklists (process documentation) as needed to maintain a high level of Quality Standards
  • Qualification of new suppliers through QMS audits. Perform supplier surveillance audits / supplier development (approved suppliers)
  • Respond professionally and promptly to customer requests for completed surveys / questionairres, CMS Quality Certificates, Letters for RoHs, Reach, Conflict Minerals, etc.
  • Coordinate and manage the site internal audit program and train internal auditors  (complete audits on-time)
  • Manage and administer the Document Control System (DMS) for the business – EtQ
  • Communicate with personnel at all levels in relation to quality matters, compliance and understanding.
  • Manage and maintain an audit noncomformity database (detailed analysis of nonconformities)
  • Participate with 8D problem solving activities and administer a corrective actions register for the business.
  • Manage and maintain site established business management systems. This includes, but not limited to –
    • Cost of Quality (Power BI)
    • Management review of QMS
    • Rework tracking (Power Bi)
    • Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis (PFMEA)
    • MoC Process
    • Weekly Scorecard
    • Corporate quality initiatives

 

 

 

Leadership Competencies & Technical Skillset:

  • A college degree and / or equivelant experience
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 standards
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, work independently and cooperatively with team members
  • Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills across all levels of the organization
  • Effective decision-making skills
  • The ability to positively influence and drive improvements among Managers and peers Drive change and not accept the Status Quo
