Context:

 

Supervise the physical analysts to meet all department and plant directives in safety, quality and productivity. To maintain a consistent flow of material to the mechanical property lab for analysis. To maintain operating procedures to meet all internal quality requirements as well as applicable customer and society specifications. Coordinate maintenance and troubleshoot area equipment including CNC Milling Machines, CNC Lathes, Horizontal and Vertical Band Saws. Manage daily manpower requirements, inventory, and priorities. Provide vacation coverage for other lab supervisors as needed.  Assist with project management of CAPEX or improvement projects within the department.

 

 

 

Primary Purpose

 

  • Management of sample preparation analysts to meet department and plant KPI’s for safety, quality, and productivity.
  • Insure proper inventory of tooling and parts for CNC mills, lathes, and saws along with troubleshooting each piece of equipment
  • Daily inventory of outstanding test results pending and evaluate and solve reasons why outstanding
  • Management of manning for the sample preparation area and other department within the lab including payroll and attendance
  • Maintain communications with outside testing facilities
  • Keep informed on all areas within the lab department
  • Maintain quality conformance of sample preparation and assist with audit preparations.

 

 

Key accountabilities

 

  • TCIR rate at or below target
  • Accreditation to all needed internal and external quality certification with minimal non-compliance issues
  • At or below target for department KPI’s
  • Minimize down time and to maintain an accurate accountability for cost within the department’s budget
  • Insure a minimal amount of turnaround time from sample preparation area to fracture lab
  • Maintain housekeeping and 5s to department and plant standards
  • Keep overtime and staffing cost within the department’s budget
  • Ensures corrective action is taken on any attendance issues or code of conduct violations
  • Keep deliveries on schedule and the timely results of testing to achieve prompt shipments to customers
  • Provide assistance within the lab along with covering staff absentees

 

 

Leadership competencies, technical skills requirement

 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering/Technical Field or Associate Degree in same field with 5 Years’ Experience
  • Supervisory or Management Experience
  • Excellent Communication Skills in Conveying Information Clearly and Effectively
  • Must be Flexible in Handling Multiple Demands, Shifting Priorities and Change
  • Proficiency in Personal Computer (Microsoft Word ,Excel, SAP, AutoCad or Mastercam)
  • Working Knowledge of CNC Machines, Equipment and Tooling.

 

 

Complexity

 

 

Evaluate off dimension sample specimens and make corrections within the CNC programs. Identify and correct misidentified samples to insure accuracy. Daily evaluation of process flow constraints within the department and address to obtain the maximum productivity.   Maintain the area within budgetary constraints while meeting key process indicators requires continual evaluation of daily priorities manpower assignments, etc.

 

Responsible for the compliance of all samples prepared for testing to applicable society and customer specifications.  Responsible for the daily handling of critical material for customer shipments, effective utilization of manpower and equipment. Responsible for the safe operation of all equipment in the area to protect both the employees and the equipment itself.
