Job Summary

This position will be responsible for the overall management of combustion equipment on furnaces and-or drier / preheaters in both E13 and Cast House operating facilities. Both facilities have a range of furnaces and preheaters that utilize, in some instances, different makes and models of gas fired combustion burners. 

 

Key Accountabilities

  • Play a lead role in the implementation of Smart Melt™ furnace management software 
  • Monitoring and tuning of combustion equipment 
  • Identification and implementation of best-in-class furnace management systems that complement Operation’s, Maintenance and Reliability procedures and practices  
  • Support company-wide sustainability and energy savings projects  
  • Directly responsible for the development and implementation of KPIs metrics that measure the overall combustion system performance 
  • Liaison between Operations / Process / Maintenance on business issues in accordance with equipment combustion systems 
  • Analyze and problem solve issues such that sound judgement can be applied to manage risks

  • Works to ensure that all combustion equipment is operating at optimum efficiency 
  • Ensures that we have programs in place to track and monitor all furnace equipment combustion systems  
  • Daily responsibility of checking equipment. Escalate issues in a timely manner and ensure effective plans and counter-measures are established to rapidly resolve the issue(s) 
  • Act as the primary contact in both E13 and the Cast House to support all sustainability and energy projects 
  • Works directly with the area Reliability Engineers to solve problems for both E13 and the Cast House 
  • Promotes and provides a continuous learning and improvement environment for all furnace and combustion work for upstream areas 
  • Must provide training / mentorship / coaching for others in the use and understanding of furnace and combustion design, practices and procedures 
  • Leverages the best practices across upstream departments and furnaces 
  • Supports criticality assessment and commonality of spares of all furnace combustion equipment for the site 
  • Works with maintenance to support the strategic analysis to provide long range replacement cost and planning that targets equipment obsolescence and replacement in the business  
  • Teaches, trains, drives, and develops furnace and combustion reliability for the site.
  • Is on call for emergency breakdown support.

 

Leadership competencies, technical skills requirement:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering - preferred - OR
  • 5 years’ experience in a comparable industrial environment, with a strong track record in a maintenance role
  • Burner / combustion furnace systems experience & knowledge in the metals industry. Along with strong knowledge & understanding of furnace control systems
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate and coach effectively in both verbal and written formats. Message delivery and sound presentation skills are required
  • Reliable and efficient time management skills
  • Project coordination – planning, scheduling, resource management along with effective, timely communications are a must
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Project - desirable
  • Experience with Enterprise Business Systems (SAP, Oracle) - required
  • Knowledge & experience using Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) -required
  • Ability to work in a fluid environment yet meet the necessary deadlines, work within the designed costs constraints and deliver on-promise the required responsibilities of the role
  • Work under pressure and clear barriers / constraints whilst managing multiple priorities
