Plant Director P&ARP Singen

Germany, Baden-Württemberg, Singen

Remote Position:

November 10th, 2022

Constellium is a global leader in the manufacture of high-quality aluminum products and solutions. The company's nearly century-long history is deeply connected to the aluminum pioneers of Pechiney, Alcan and Alusuisse. With the increasing demand for aluminum, Constellium's business has diversified significantly.
Today, the company is distinguished by a commitment to excellence, a flair for creative collaboration and an ability to drive innovation. These qualities define the company and underpin its market-leading position. With headquarters in Paris, Baltimore and Zurich and more than 28 production sites in Europe, North America and China, Constellium employs around 12,000 people worldwide and generated revenue of €6.2 billion in 2021. As the world's leading aluminum company, Constellium is heavily involved in the production of innovative and sustainable aluminum products and solutions. The core business thus comprises three business areas, automotive, aerospace and packaging, other market segments are defense, transportation and other industry segments.

• Rolled products: plates, sheets and coils
• Extrusions: customized profiles, large profiles, soft and hard alloy profiles, tubes and bars
• Automotive structures: crash management systems, other safety systems, cockpit carriers, body-in-white structural components
• Over 150 active patent families

The production plant in Singen has ca. 1,500 employees and operates both an extrusion plant and a rolling mill at the site. The Gottmadingen automotive plant is in the immediate vicinity and is the third unit at the Singen site. The rolling mill produces around 200,000 tons per year and supplies the packaging, cosmetics as well as automotive industries and is the market leader for can sheet in Europe and North America.

The rolling mill in Singen has seen significant growth in recent years and is one of the plants that is benefiting from the Constellium Group's large-scale investment projects. With ca. 700 employees, the rolling mill is the largest unit at the Singen/Gottmadingen site and includes the production areas or APUs (Autonomous Production Unit) cast house, rolling area and finishing. Since the current Plant Director will retire in spring 2023, we are looking for a successor who should not only be able to guarantee undisturbed operations, but also to actively participate in the growth and dynamic developments of the Constellium Group and the Singen rolling mill. Organizationally, in addition to the three APUs, the Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain and Metal Purchasing departments as well as Maintenance report directly to the Plant Director, while central management services such as HR, finance, EHS, indirect procurement, vocational training etc. are the responsibility of Singen Shared Services (CDG), with whom the Plant Director works closely together.

• Ensuring operational processes and responsibility for the APUs cast house, rolling area and finishing as well as optimizing existing processes and using lean management tools
• Support and engage in the strategic goals of the BU Packaging & Automotive Rolled Products. In particular, the current and future planned investment projects should be carried out independently and further developed

• As a major local project, the future Plant Director should move local EHS culture towards behavioural safety
• Supporting BU management by aligning BU goals with plant goals and creating overarching strategies
• The future Plant Director acts as a respectful management team member and communicates transparently with his team as well as with BU management

• Close cooperation in the plant network, especially at the site, as part of best-practice benchmarking measures
• Working closely with the engineering department to drive technology projects and foster innovation
• Maintaining and increasing quality standards
• As the P&ARP Singen is ASI (Aluminium Stewardship Initiative) certified, responsible and sustainable operations are a top priority, to be held up and increased at any point
• Close collaboration with employee representatives (Betriebsrat)

• University degree (Master/Dipl.-Ing.), preferably in engineering/mechanics/automation or a similar technical subject
• Profound experience in complex industrial production environment and technical skills ideally combined with economic knowledge as well as financial and supply chain experience
• Successful track record of plant management over several years
• Basic technical knowledge of the products and rolling processes is a plus
• Strong collaborator, who is open to feedback, good at listening and understands how to involve and convince stakeholders
• Willing to dedicate part of time to promote and empower teams to contribute and develop performance, operational excellence and continuous improvements
• Able to roll up sleeves in a company with lean corporate functions
• Strong values - transparent, ability to build trust, team player who comes with integrity
• Fact-based
• Experienced leader who feels comfortable in an innovative and dynamic environment and comes with high energy and drive. We expect the future Plant Director to be adaptable and agile
