Product Engineer - Canstock

Primary Purpose

The Can Stock Product Engineer maintains quality and established fabricating practices for Can Stock body sheet (provides metallurgical coverage for specific projects, provides metallurgical assistance to departments, and participates on special problem solving teams.


Key Accountabilities

  • Support initial registration and subsequent maintenance of ISO-9001/IATF 16949  systems.
  • Correct and/or report unsafe acts or conditions to supervisor. 
  • Serve as liaison between customers and production operations.
  • Review product performance with field sales.
  • Follow trials and qualification orders through production operations.  Evaluate suitability for customer requirements.
  • Assess competitor activities and product performance attributes to establish industry benchmarks.
  • Observes each production operation to seek improvements.
  • Initiates cost reduction trials and implements improved practices.
  • Provide disposition on non-conforming (held) metal, and evaluates cause of problems.
  • Identify areas for product improvement, designs experiment, analyzes data, issues report, and initiate practice changes as required.
  • Consults with APU managers, Quality managers, production supervisors, production employees, maintenance employees, engineers, and inspection personnel.


Leadership Competencies, Technical Skills Requirement

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Materials, Metallurgy, or Metallurgical Engineering.
  • Certification as an ASQ-CQE, CQA, or six-sigma preferred
  • Must be able to transfer technical information into layman’s terms for complete communication.
  • Must have ability to write technically oriented reports that are understood by the general public.
  • Ability to work with a broad cross section of people from directros, managers, hourly work force and internal and external customers.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and establish appropriate priority.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be proficient with Microsoft Office software e.g. Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Experiencer in mini-tab and MS PowerBi is preferred.
  • Strong problem solving, judgment, and critical thinking skills
  • Aptitude for detailed work requiring a high degree of accuracy
  • Good communication, high level of autonomy, collaboration and interpersonal skills are equally important.
  • Perform, understand and communicate detailed information analysis and evaluation, and have a good track record working effectively within a team-based environment
  • Language fluency in English. French or German would be a plus.
