Primary Purpose
The Logistics Manager will oversee the logistics teams for Muscle Shoals and Bowling Green locations with strategic planning and recommendation of optimal transportation modes with considerations of safety, cost efficiencies, and on time delivery. The Logistics Manager is responsible for managing the cost for the outbound logistics for shipments of finished good products to customers and keeping costs to budget levels.
Responsibilities
- Manage 60-80 million dollars of freight cost annually
- Strategic planning and execution of optimal transportation costs, modes, routing, equipment, and frequency to optimize spend
- Manage all aspects of carrier relations to ensure sufficient capacity within the freight market to support delivery of Finished Goods to customers
- Lead carrier management processes, such as selection, qualification, or performance evaluation
- Supervise the work of logistics specialists and logistic techs at Muscle Shoals directly and Bowling Green indirectly
- Travel to Bowling Green monthly to visit face-to-face with the team and review performance
- Accountable for use of Transportation Management Systems to meet delivery requirements and utilization of lowest cost options for carriers
- Maintain metrics, reports, and process documentation
- Resolve problems concerning carriers, i.e. claims, policy infractions, etc.
- Monitor product export processes to ensure compliance with regulatory or legal requirements
- Collaborate with other departments to integrate logistics with business systems, such as customer sales, order management, accounting, operations, and purchasing
- Analyze the financial impact of proposed logistics changes, such as routing, shipping modes, product volumes or mixes, or carriers
- Review global, national, or regional transportation and logistics reports for ways to improve efficiency or minimize the environmental impact of logistics activities
- Develop plans and set goals to reduce carbon emissions associated with storage or transport activities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business or Technical field preferred
- 5+ years’ experience in logistics or supply chain required; 3+ years of logistics management preferred
- Proficiency in analytical and reporting tools (MS Excel, etc); experience with SAP preferred
- Must be able to support, drive and challenge managers within the company.
- Must have strong communication skills; able to communicate effectively with floor personnel to plant leadership team
- Must have the confidence and ability to deal professionally with both internal and external customers
- Ability to adjust to rapidly changing priorities and incorporate changes seamlessly
- Result orientation, accountability, critical thinking, problem solving, project and change management, and team working/building
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to be on call
