Job Summary: The Metal Planner is responsible for analyzing the open demand for all part numbers within the established planning horizons and ensuring the correct quantities of raw material/pass through material are planned in accordance with process lead times to allow for delivery to the customer on time/in-full and for internal inventory targets to be met. This individual will be required to coordinate daily with a broad range of internal/external points of contact to ensure customer order requirements are clear and our pipeline to support them is secure. The Metal Planner also plays a key role in Supplier Performance evaluation relative to the monitoring criteria established.

Responsibilities

  • Planning & coordinating in-bound material receipts with suppliers relative to supply/demand & on hand inventory level targets/space constraints, tracking accuracy to plan & escalating as needed if off plan
  • Monitoring material pipelines & re-planning/repurposing for existing or potential material shortages; stagnant material clean-up/repurposing; Analyzing Material Resource Planning (MRP) tool to make educated decisions for material coverage
  • Maintenance of MRP system/tools’ planning rules & horizons
  • Product & Customer Part Specification creation & maintenance in ERP system
  • Maintaining Purchase orders with material suppliers
  • Supplier Performance tracking, supplier relations
  • Intra- and inter-departmental communications, relations, & influence
  • Participate in forecasting & planning meetings
  • Support monthly S&OP cycle by drafting & distributing metal purchase forecast
  • Participate in departmental & cross-departmental project & process improvement initiatives

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Management or related field, or 10 years commensurate experience required
  • 1 – 3 years of Supply Chain or Manufacturing order planning experience required, with solid understanding of lead times and process flow
  • Demonstrated ability to think creatively, critically, and analytically with organizational, communication, & relationship building skills required
  • Previous experience with ERP & MRP software systems required
  • Advanced computer skills required
