Interview with Markus Teltscher, Planning Manager, Ravenswood | Constellium
As part of Constellium’s supply chain team, you will help to make sure that we deliver and receive the right quantity of the right material in the right location. You will help us to achieve our ambitious goal to be the most profitable company in our industry.
Whether at a local or a global scale, working in Constellium’s supply chain department requires you to interact with other stakeholders to monitor stock levels for various supply chains, ensure that our targets are met, reduce our costs, and verify that our suppliers always have enough stock to meet our demand.
What do you like most about working for Constellium?
Here in Ravenswood, we are fortunate in that the plant leadership encourages independent thinking and empowers the workforce to exercise decision making. It is also important to me that we are an international company with numerous facilities around the world. This provides an opportunity for enterprise-wide knowledge exchange and best practice sharing to the benefit of all involved parties.
What inspires you about working in Supply Chain?
As members of the supply chain team, we have an end-to-end view of the many operational- and supply-chain processes throughout the Ravenswood facility. Our team consists of a good mix of seasoned professionals and young, emerging talents that can think outside the box. This allows us to approach operational problems holistically and to find suitable solutions in collaboration with the various involved departments.
I enjoy the daily challenges that come with working in a dynamic, ever-changing industrial environment. Being given the opportunity and responsibility to lead and/or participate in critical decision making processes reaffirms that our work is in fact making a difference to the operational success of the Ravenswood facility.
What skills or past experiences do you think helped you become who you are at Constellium?
My university degree in aerospace engineering and my past training as Lean Six Sigma Black Belt have certainly laid the foundation for what I need today to be successful in my supply chain role. My 10+ years of experience in various Constellium (formerly Alcan and Alusuisse) sales- and project management positions across three different continents have helped me to develop a keen sense of what is truly important from a customer’s perspective, regardless of sometimes stark cultural differences.
