Constellium Valais confirms its investments to meet growing demand in the aeronautics sector. Over 10 million francs will be invested in 2013-2014 to modernize its plants in Valais.
Sierre, 26th February 2013. Christophe Villemin, President of the Global Aerospace, Transportation and Industry (Global ATI) Divison of Constellium, and Jean-Michel Cina, the Conseiller d’Etat of Valais in charge of the Economy, met this morning at the Constellium Valais plant in Sierre to discuss the transition of its production capabilities towards the aeronautics sector.
“We are pleased to confirm that our transformation plan announced in July 2012 is on track and that the first investments have been made”, declared Christophe Villemin. “This process was made possible thanks to the complete and active support from our employees, their representatives, the local authorities, the State of Valais, as well as the city of Sierre. On behalf of the Constellium group, I would like to thank them all for this exemplary collaboration”, concluded Christophe Villemin.
In practice, the first plates designed for the aeronautics industry have been produced in the Constellium plants in Valais. Nearly 10% of the volume produced this year will be addressed to the group’s aeronautics customers. The qualification process of Constellium Valais for the aeronautics sector is under way, with the objective of producing 25% to 30% of total volume for this sector by 2014.
“This is an excellent piece of news for the economy in Valais”, said Jean-Michel Cina, the Conseiller d’Etat of Valais in charge of the Economy. “This transition towards the aeronautics industry will enable the State of Valais to benefit from a growth sector and to develop new competences locally with high added value. This type of activities, driven by innovation, is exactly what the State of Valais supports and wants to attract.”
