Job Summary:
The Logistics Specialist will work with operations and liaise with traffic vendors to ensure that all freight movements are done in a most cost-effective manner and that metal arrives as required to the customer – safely and on-time.
Responsibilities:
Evaluates and designs transportation and distribution procedures to maximize delivery efficiencies
Researches and analyzes freight costs and classifications, delivery methods, and delivery schedules to minimize delivery costs and maximize customer satisfaction
Manage vendor relationships, as it relates to material movement, including metal and MRO items
Manage customer and supplier metal returns
Develop, document and manage transportation KPI’s
Manage both international and in-country freight.
Liaise and negotiate with operations, truck/train shipping vendors, and customers
Track quality, quantity, stock levels, delivery times, transport costs and efficiency
Plan routes and process shipments
Resolve any arising problems or complaints
Qualifications:
1 to 3 years of experience in logistics/transportation, customer service and/or product scheduling in a manufacturing environment (aluminum industry preferred).
High school education or equivalent required; college degree preferred
Must demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel
Must be capable of obtaining customer data and information from SAP programs including: Customer Order Status, Forecast, Order Detail, MCR’s, and Order History.
Result orientation, accountability, negotiation, problem solving, project and change management, and team working/building
Good communication, high level of autonomy, collaboration and interpersonal skills are equally important
Perform, understand and communicate detailed information analysis and evaluation, and have a good track record working effectively within a team-based environment
Language fluency in English; Spanish would be a plus.
Ability to work in cross-organizational and multi-functional teams in a global matrix organization with manufacturing operations and an international mindset
