Logistics Specialist

Job Summary:  

The Logistics Specialist will work with operations and liaise with traffic vendors to ensure that all freight movements are done in a most cost-effective manner and that metal arrives as required to the customer – safely and on-time. 


  • Evaluates and designs transportation and distribution procedures to maximize delivery efficiencies  

  •  Researches and analyzes freight costs and classifications, delivery methods, and delivery schedules to minimize delivery costs and maximize customer satisfaction 

  • Manage vendor relationships, as it relates to material movement, including metal and MRO items 

  • Manage customer and supplier metal returns 

  • Develop, document and manage transportation KPI’s 

  • Manage both international and in-country freight. 

  • Liaise and negotiate with operations, truck/train shipping vendors, and customers 

  • Track quality, quantity, stock levels, delivery times, transport costs and efficiency 

  • Plan routes and process shipments 

  • Resolve any arising problems or complaints 




  • 1 to 3 years of experience in logistics/transportation, customer service and/or product scheduling in a manufacturing environment (aluminum industry preferred).  

  • High school education or equivalent required; college degree preferred 

  •  Must demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel  

  • Must be capable of obtaining customer data and information from SAP programs including: Customer Order Status, Forecast, Order Detail, MCR’s, and Order History. 

  • Result orientation, accountability, negotiation, problem solving, project and change management, and team working/building 

  • Good communication, high level of autonomy, collaboration and interpersonal skills are equally important 

  • Perform, understand and communicate detailed information analysis and evaluation, and have a good track record working effectively within a team-based environment 

  • Language fluency in English; Spanish would be a plus. 

  • Ability to work in cross-organizational and multi-functional teams in a global matrix organization with manufacturing operations and an international mindset
