Job Summary:

The Product Engineer is responsible for maintaining and improving product quality of automotive body sheet (ABS) through Muscle Shoals (CMS) and Bowling Green (CBG) processing, to ensure it meets both internal and external customer expectations.

 

To be successful, he or she must

  • Work effectively within CMS and CBG Quality and Technical teams to resolve and improve ABS quality and recovery.
  • Act as a liaison to the manufacturing team, overseeing the effective use of problem solving and driving continuous improvement of our product and processes against defined targets.
  • Act as the guardian for coil product quality delivered to CBG and our customers

 


Responsibilities:

  • Execute projects to reduce scrap, improve recovery, reduce the need for rework, and improve cost drivers that impact the cost of quality.
  • Lead cross-functional problem-solving teams using 8D process.
  • Ensure compliance to our change management process from a product quality standpoint.
  • Initiates cost reduction trials and implements improved practices.
  • Ensure that personnel responsible for product manufacturing are regularly informed of process performance against customer targets.
  • Effectively share data that helps stakeholders visualize the current key process performance indicators and areas for improvement.
  • Perform, understand and communicate detailed information analysis and evaluation.
  • Guide and influence our Autonomous Production Unit (APU) manufacturing and quality teams to achieve product quality targets.
  • Actively seek and apply best known industry practices.
  • Apply and understand core quality principles such as PFMEA, SPC, and MSA.
  • Consults with APU managers, Quality managers, production supervisors, production employees, maintenance employees, engineers, and inspection personnel.

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of bachelor's degree in Materials, Metallurgy, Metallurgical Engineering, or similar field of study.
  • Must be able to transfer technical information into simple terms for complete communication.
  • Must be able to write technically oriented reports understood by the public.
  • Ability to work with a broad cross section of people from directors, managers, hourly work force and internal and external customers.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and establish appropriate priorities.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be proficient with Microsoft Office software e.g. Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Strong problem solving, judgment, and critical thinking skills
  • Aptitude for detailed work requiring a high degree of accuracy
  • Effective communication, a high level of autonomy, collaboration and interpersonal skills are equally important.
  • Experience in mini-tab and MS PowerBi is a plus
  • Language fluency in English. French or German would be a plus.

With its widest strip mill in the USA and a world-class recycling center, the site represents one of the largest sites within Constellium and is a world-class can recycling center, with the capacity to recycle nearly 20 billion cans per year. Muscle Shoals’ main product is aluminum can sheet for the packaging industry, particularly for beverage containers. It manufactures sheet used in all three components of an aluminum can, namely body stock, coated end stock and tab stock. Additionally, Muscle Shoals’ supplies Auto Body Sheet substrate to Constellium’s Bowling Green, Kentucky, site.
